WELCOME HOME SCHOOL NEWS JUNE 2022

JANUARY 2022- the School opened with another 40 students and an additional 2 nursery teachers. To date, we have a total of 110 children in our school and 16 teachers -workers.

Our Pre-unit Class graduated in December, performing beautifully in front of their parents and guests of honour from Mount Moriah -School.

Now they are settled in their new classroom with the new children in Primary One with their Class Teacher Sir Asa.

Primary 2 are a full class of 40 students and their Class Teacher Helen.

During the Christmas break we were able to plant trees to give more shade in the playground and thanks to some friends we also bought some swings and other apparatus for the school.

As well as the children from the village we are using 2 school buses to bring children from the surrounding villages.

We want to thank our friends from the Czech Republic who helped us to buy the new school bus for this year.

We are using one of the Nursery classes as our dining still, as we plan later to build a purpose built hall to include a new kitchen and dining/ meeting hall for the whole school.

A WORD  FROM THE MANAGEMENT.

As Director of the school, together with the Manager and Head teacher, we thank God for all that has been achieved in the last year.

We thank all staff, parents, donors and friends for all your support over the last year.

We ask you to continue to pray for:-

  • Our school children.
  • Our teachers and staff.
  • Our children's parents.

And also,

  • For finances for the continued building of the school.

M to M in England

March to
May in
England
2022

It was nearly 3 years since my last trip to England, due to Covid. I came into 2022 committing the year to the Lord and asked Him to make it clear when I should or could travel.

I thought that mid April would be a perfect time and I would be able to stay until mid June.

The last 3 years had, for all of us Mamas, been quite a stretching time in a number of ways. With Children growing up around us, half building, registering and running a school, sewing uniforms for 100 children, it kept us on our toes. I was ready for a break.

Life takes us by surprise, and I had very difficult news from my family that my younger brother died suddenly in France. I had a week to make arrangements to go to England. After my brother's funeral in France I had a month in Cornwall, Falmouth with my father. It was a blessed time.

My main hosts when I am in England are the Stribbling family. Anita and Chris are both Trustees of the WHTT Charity in England that supports Karibu Nyumbani. I have known them since I was 15 years old. Abi, far left was our first volunteer to come out to us in 2015.

I stayed for nearly a week with friends from Taunton, Patrick and Jan who open their garden most years to fundraise for KN. Sarah their daughter was over too, from New Zealand, which made my stay even more precious- I love the way the Lord arranges things so wonderfully.  As well as good times with my family, and friends, I travelled to new places meeting new people who hope one day to come and see us here in Tanzania.

It was at Burgess Hill after a Trustees meeting, that I met up with our children's Mamas Hilary , Gloria and Clare who love our children so much. They have been out to see us many times and we have missed them over the last 3 years. We are expecting them in November (hurray!)

  LET GO AND LET GOD

Along with every big responsibility, comes a great need to "let go and let God." This has been my biggest lesson over the last 3 months; - to keep the main focus of my heart worshiping and loving the Lord, trusting all my needs to Him. Most of the time I was away I felt like a child learning to "trust" and be "care free". In the resting, I met with God's great care and love being shown through everyone I met. God bless you all.

Back at home at the end of May

The biggest wonder of all was meeting Nance who had arrived in April.

Ludmila will be able to take a break in a few weeks to go to the Czech Republic !! Pray for her please that she can have a good rest. 

Approaching the end of May I became more and more excited to get back home. I had been able to see the children on what's App but there is nothing like being at home with the little ones you love and miss.

First Blog

Some time has passed since the last update to all friends and supporters on the life at Karibu Nyumbani. And because there is no time like the present, we would like to take this chance to remedy that. We are two volunteers from the Czech Republic, Sabi a Erik. We arrived in Tanzania at the beginning of February and will be part of the Karibu Nyumbani community until the beginning of May

There are still 22 children at the orphanage, the youngest one being little Onesmo Kobelo, currently a year and a half old. A happy baby, he is looked after by the aunties and ourselves during the day and by his many siblings in the afternoon. Already equipped with some basic swahili words and several names, he likes to use these very much, irrespective of the situation. Other than Onesmo Kobelo, all the kids go to primary school or nursery. They visit Karibu Nyumbany's Welcome Home School and Nursery, Tumbi Primary School or St John Bosco Primary School near Tumbi. The oldest kids are in their final year of primary school and also in the middle of puberty and show their own individualities which is interesting to observe and sometimes tricky to deal with.

During the week, the children immerse themselves in their studies, busy as bees. After they finish classes at school in the afternoon, they continue their education at Karibu Nyumbani with the help of tutors, mamas and ourselves. On Friday evenings and sometimes Saturday afternoons, they are rewarded by a movie. The biggest success so far was Disney's Lion King remake, which they have been asking to watch again ever since. Even though some continue to think the movie is called Lion God.

In February, the children took a Saturday trip to the Roliondo market in the nearby town of Maili Moja. When they returned, their eyes were widened with excitement and new possessions pressed tightly in their little hands. There were colourful water bottles, flashlights, watches which also serve as calculators, glittery belts and beautiful earrings for the girls. They bought these items from saved up pocket money which they regularly receive and which teaches them the basics of home economy. For myself, the market was an overwhelming experience, with so many shops, noises, people and colours that I was barely following the children, let alone buying something I needed. However, the children of course offered a lot of advice as to which shoes or clothes I should purchase.

We also celebrated several birthdays recently. A memorable one was David's third birthday, mainly because he got a firetruck as a present. Needless to say that the firetruck made all kind of noises and for several days nothing else could be heard throughout the orphanage. In addition, Samuel celebrated his tenth birthday and Neema celebrated her ninth birthday. Each received a cake and presents from the entire family and everyone was singing 'Happy Birthday' countless times.

About once a week, we try to take a walk with the children and discover Karibu Nyumbani's beautiful surroundings. This sometimes results in heated, but funny discussion because walking just for pleasure makes little sense to some of the children and suggestions why we don't take a bus come up. But in the end the children enjoy being outside just as much as we do.

Jane Rose: Crowned in Heaven

On the 16th of February, whilst all Jane Rose's family were gathered in Devon, her Tanzanian family here at Karibu Nyumbani , had a very special service. Our Parish Priest Fr. Benno Kikudo concelebrated Mass in our Chapel, he had met Jane many times during her visits with us, and spoke beautifully during the Mass. The Choir from the sub-Parish, in the small village of Boko Temboni were present, bringing the atmosphere of heaven to all. We give thanks to God for the life of Jane Rose and know that she wears us as a crown in Heaven.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JANE ROSE

Ten years ago in 2012, after returning to England from Tanzania for the second time, I felt the Lord prompting me to rest.

"Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place
                      And get some rest."
                                Mk 6v31

My plans to send out a newsletter were laid aside and the day spent quietly under a tree by a stream. In the evening I was given a message to ring Ross a good friend of the family. She invited me to come and visit her in London. I went the day Olympics started in London. After a coffee with Ross, I met Jane her good friend. We looked at some photos together of my time in Tanzania and Jane asked me what was needed. She immediately said that she would like to add to the amount raised the previous year to build our first house for children which we finished in 2013.

God is able to make all grace abound to you,

So that in all things, at all times,

Having all that you need,

You will abound in every good work.

2 Cor. 9v8

The following year Jane and Ross came to visit us, it was very special to have them both. We shared with them our 2nd project to build 3 houses for the Children's home, a boy's house, a girl's house and a kitchen dining and sitting room. Before they left, Jane said that she would like to pay for the second project! It was a gift that was beyond imagination.

The year after that Jane came again, this time, with her sister Caroline and her friend. They spent their every moment they could with the children.

I have learnt so much over the last ten years about trusting, stepping out and believing that Our Father in Heaven will faithfully supply all that we need.

Thank you Jane for your sensitivity to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and your generous heart.

It is my prayer that all the children who come to spend their lives within these walls will carry the same love and care for others in their hearts.

NOT only have our own children been blessed by the provision of a home but also 70 children from our village and surrounding villages are being educated in our school.

Last year we needed help to build 3 classes and a Library in order to finish the registration of the school. It was through Jane's generosity again that we were able to complete this important step. (You can read all about it in our school blog.)

I have learnt so much over the last ten years about trusting, stepping out and believing that Our Father in Heaven will faithfully supply all that we need.

Thank you Jane for your sensitivity to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and your generous heart.

It is my prayer that all the children who come to spend their lives within these walls will have the same love and care for others in their hearts.

"You are blessed

Because you believed

That the Lord

Would do

What he said."

Lk 1 v 45

We continue to trust, and believe that the Lord will do as he has said. These are times for us to trust and believe. God bless you Jane and all those we love and hold in our hearts who have helped the mission and work of Welcome Home Community, our home - Karibu Nyumbani and our school – Welcome Home School.

Graduation Day

On Saturday 12/12/2020, the 25 children in our Pre-unit class at Welcome Home School celebrated their graduation day. The day was full of joy and delight.

The build up to this day started at the beginning of September when the children started to learn words for what day would say and sing. They practised standing in front of their classmates and making sure they spoke with clear and loud voices. The day before the graduation the microphones arrived, and the children were happy to use these. All the children enjoyed dancing to the music blaring through the speakers and the day was full of excitement and anticipation as decorations and tents were put up. The day had finally arrived. Saturday was a big day in the lives of our children and for our school It was a special day, a special day. I as a teacher was so proud of my children, to see them so happy and what they achieved and how well they spoke and sang. They knew how proud we all were of them all and how fantastic they looked. It was a day I will remember forever.

NOVEMBER NEWS

Dear Friends,

We greet you all with love and thank our Heavenly Father each day for you.

On many fronts it has been a challenging time for us and as I read messages from friends and family, I believe it is the same for many of us. I heard such an inspiring talk this week that encourages me to see every situation as a prompting from the Lord to come closer to him and call upon Him more. The Scripture inspiring the talk was 1 Sam 1- about Hannah at the end of herself, tired of being irritated by Penina her husband's second wife, she longed for a child. Verse 10 reads" deeply distressed she wept and prayed to Yahweh". Perhaps if she had not reached this place of desperation, she would not have relinquished her child to the Lord. God had a plan, in the delay, Hannah's heart was being changed and prepared.

I pray our hearts will be prepared for the fruit that He wants to be born through us.

I thank God for the small Community that has grown here, the Mamas and long term "Mama Madogo" "small mothers" and teacher Madam Kat, Aunties and Uncles. (In the picture below we were celebrating my father's wedding anniversary.)

As you might know we haven't had volunteers and friends come and visit since February, which we miss so much. However, we have had the blessing of Ester's Nephews, Aliko and Andrew (Andrew came for a few days) and niece, Huruma. Also, a young man the children call "G" and Asa. G and Asa will be leaving us at the end of the year to follow different careers, but they chose to give 6 months to us here at Karibu Nyumbani and have been a great support. Huruma has been a second mum to David, and helping in the kitchen, doing homework with the children and helping in many other ways. She will be off this month to study in India. Aliko is studying to be a teacher and has recently done his field work nearby. Now he is on his break with us, continuing to teach the children whilst doing odd jobs around the place. We have 2 new aunties who have quickly settled into the family life here and the children love them.

A Young man called Elias heads up the men's work and Jackson still drives and looks after our vehicles.

Our children who are growing up as you can see in the following pictures. Birthdays are still enjoyed by opening up the presents sent by Mama Hilary in England ( if they don't quite reach us on time, I have to be creative!) and these days the children have the joy of making their own cake to share with the family here and any visitors.

Last weekend two of our children were asked to be page boy and bridesmaid for one of our former uncles – Philbert, It was a wonderful celebration for our small village parish. Philbert now lives in the village with his wife and is our church choir master and keyboard player.

Relationships with our neighbours are growing. Baba Winnie has 2 shops and Mama Winnie helps Mama Mia sewing. Baba Jacky on the Motor bike is doing well in his new business, and the family are grateful for the donor who helped him to start, he is now able to pay school fees as well as help his wife buy food for the family. The Mama making the chapatis, works so hard to manage to send her girl to our school too. Madam Kat is a star in the village for all the children. she can't walk anywhere without being surrounded children.

Madam Kat will help me get a school blog out soon, we are now preparing for our top year of Nursery to graduate up to first year of primary school!! Please pray for them. Graduation day is the 12th of December.

This weekend 7 of our older children are receiving Confirmation, so please hold, Advent, Queenie, Daflosa, Isaya, Emmanuel, Devota and Sabina in your prayers. It will be a special day with the children's Godparents and other friends will be coming, we are expecting to be 80 in all!

We are very aware that our friends in England, Czech, Germany and other places around the world are in lock down. We pray for you all that the Lord sustains you with Joy in His presence and ask you please to pray for us in Tanzania that we remain safe.

God bless you all.

CONFIRMATION DAY

Devota says," Yesterday we had our confirmation day, it was so wonderful. The best thing for me was the quiz that Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Ruwa'ichi asked all of us. I received the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Queenie says, "Yesterday was my day for Confirmation, I was so happy to receive the Holy Spirit and his gifts. It was so special to have the Archbishop with us, and I had a chance to talk to him. I was also very happy to have Mama Edina as my God Mother. I have felt different as I believe so much that the Holy Spirit has filled me, and he has promised to walk with me for the whole of my life

Advent says, "After a very long and blessed Mass with the Archbishop we came home to many friends who came to see us. We had food and gave thanks. We danced until the evening. Thank you Holy Spirit.

Isaya says; "After 11 months of learning I will miss the lessons, but I pray that I continue to grow in my faith from reading the bible. I don't particularly feel any different today, but I know that the Holy Spirit lives in me.

Sabina says, "The Holy Spirit came on me and my faith has changed." Thank you, Bibi Bonita, for bringing us the cakes.

Daflosa says, "We were prayed over and anointed with oil. I am happy to be a brave soldier of Jesus." I want to thank all who made the day so special.

Emmanuel says," I am so happy to receive the Holy Spirit. I also was given a Rosary. I want to thank Monica from England who sent a gift to help us to celebrate our day. God bless you.

29th JUNE...

THE FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL

This week our school started up after a three and a half month break because of the Covid 19 virus.

All our 7 young ones who go to the school were desperate to go back, and all the village children too.

So all 50 of them turned up beautifully and ready to learn and play.

It was great to walk around the school and see everyone so happy.

A WORD FROM THE HEAD TEACHER....

 A WORD FROM MADAM KAT....

On Monday it will be six months since I arrived in Tanzania. My time teaching here has been varied. I have enjoyed the slower pace of life and the possibility to be creative making my own resources to use in my lessons with the nursery and pre-unit children and preparing homework for the children to do (this is done by hand because we don't have a photocopier) I taught the nursery and pre-school class for ten weeks before lockdown started. For the last month of teaching at the school I had two fantastic volunteers to help me prepare teaching aids and to help the children with their writing. After lockdown, the school closed and the volunteers returned home. I began to home school the seven younger children at the orphanage ( one from nursery class and six from the pre-unit class) Teaching the children at home was a new challenge and at times it was difficult for the children to have school in their own home. Now, after three and a half months we have returned to school again. I am very glad to be back with all the children and have missed them very much.

On one hand, it has been a challenge for me to teach here. The way of teaching is very different to what I have been used to teaching pre-schoolers in Poland and The UK. The children sit at desks learning formally and with limited resources. However, on the other hand I have never met such joyful children in my life. Every day I am greeted by children with beaming smiles who are so happy to be at school, to have a school uniform and school bag and who delight to play on the slides we have on our school grounds at play time. Here the children teach me to find joy in such simple things. For example, the children in my classes are so delighted when they get to use a pencil with a rubber on the top and colouring pencils are treasured items used for special work. This is in great contrast to how things are in Europe where children have everything available to them from Duplo blocks to interactive whiteboards. My dream is to have a laminator and laminating pouches so I can prepare resources that can last  I am learning a lot from teaching here. I look forward to the next season of teaching. We have two new teachers who are very lovely and it's great to work as a team. I hope together we can help every child learn successfully.

COOKING PORRIDGE....

As we wait for donations to continue to build the next block of classrooms, we would like to build a small kitchen. As you can see in the 2 pictures we have progressed from a log fire to a gas stove, a shack to a small store. We would like to build a small kitchen store, which can eventually be a used for teachers accommodation when we are able to build the school dining hall.

We would like to thank a family in Germany- friends of Karibu Nyumbani, whose donation will cover this project. God bless you.

PARENTS IN THE VILLAGE....

During the last year some of our poorer parents from the village have found new ways of raising school fees. We want to congratulate them for all their hard work. One mother has started to sell shoes and she is able to pay each week for her little girl.

The gentleman in the picture below is our neighbour and he has been able to expand his shop which has meant better business. The other lady in the picture is making chapatis to help pay for her little girl. We are continuing to pray that we can bless many more children from our village as the school grows- please continue to pray for this growing project.

EASTER - PENTECOST

For the last 3 months in "lock down" as well as our normal life together it has been a time of drawing very near to the Lord, to allow him to shine His love to cleanse and heal our hearts.

If anyone has been following the news concerning The Corona Virus in Tanzania, Magofuli our President has had a lot of criticism from inside and outside the country, encouraging us as a country to TRUST IN GOD, PRAY, AND NOT FEAR. It has not been clear at times exactly what state the Country has been in, but I believe now we can be sure to say that we are thankful to God that the prophecies made by WHO have not come to pass. God has been merciful to Tanzania.

We remain in prayer for those who have suffered greatly around the world, especially in my home country, including personal friends of mine, but for all those we don't know who have lost loved ones.

Lord Jesus, I pray that we give you our undivided hearts at this time so that we can rise up to be your perfect Bride through that same power of your Holy Spirit who raised up Jesus from the dead.

A WEEKS RETREAT

It had been on Ester's heart for many years to lead our children in a time of inner healing. What a better time than now! We invited Hotensia from Agape Community to come to stay with us and lead us for a week.

It was a full on time for us all, with teaching morning and afternoon and individual ministry for any who wanted. I know that the children found time to chat to Hotensia about things on their heart, and the Aunties and Uncles all expressed great joy after times of individual prayer.

The little ones over this time were having fun with Dada Kat and on the last day they had a morning of singing and dancing with a special time of prayer.

Advent David - 12 years

Shares with us that "From my heart, I see the Corona Virus has been a desert time, not only for us in Tanzania, but all over the world people have suffered. We have been praying for all the Nations every day. I see that the place here where I live is beautiful and we have not been effected here by Corona, and I thank God for that. I also thank God that we were able to have school lessons at home here during this time. We also had a very blessed week of teaching on inner healing and it was very MEANINGFUL TO ME. THANK YOU GOD, AND THANK YOU TO OUR FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR US TOO."

Hi, my name is Daflosa, Whist we have been home, I have been so happy to learn how to sew with a sewing machine. I have been helping Mama Mia mending cloths and even making new cloths for other children. I continue to pray for our nation of Tanzania along with other nations that God takes away this sickness.

I want to thank all our friends for praying for us and loving us. If you were here we would share our biscuits with you.

FOR MY MOTHER

 Col 3 v 1-3

"Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God."

When I wrote my last blog called "A Mother's heart," I had no idea what my next few months would hold and that on my return to Tanzania I would be saying my final goodbye to my own mother. My last 3 months have held moments when I have felt touches of Heaven followed by great loss. I would like to share some thoughts to encourage any others going through loss of a dear one. God bless you and give you courage in your grief. In Jesus, we are close.

 WITHIN THE VIEL.

It's never been easy to say good bye,

But this time, I knew it might be the last.

Earlier, on silent retreat, in the stillness.

As if being prepared,

Heaven took my breath away-

Peering through the veil.

My plans changed, hearing you were weak

And I had the joy of a whole month by your side

You were quieter than before

As if already gazing into heaven

Knowing that the one

Whose "banner

over you is love."

Was calling you,

You were fragile and yet inwardly strong

Peaceful and Calm.

Never wanting to be a burden

"I'm sorry "You'd say

And yet for me it was joy,

To hold you and love you.

Not wanting to leave your bed-side,

But the one calling you was calling me too.

He urged "Let go, she's in my arms"

So, trusting, I kissed you,

So beautiful and smiling

A grace moment

Peace in knowing

He loves you more.

Not two weeks passed

Now across the world

Happy children playing

Preparations for celebrations.

I ran to receive a call-

My brother's voice and his tears.

You slipped through the veil

At Peace- at Rest

Deep tears welled up, as well as grace

Knowing you're his.

In a world of orchids, bougainvillea

Mangoes and melons

As a child you left your familiar world

and still a child at heart

You've left ours

You're in His everlasting garden-

Complete Joy,

In His presence,

Where I am too, when I come away with Him

Within the veil.

first impressions lasting memories....

In August & September 2016, I was fortunate to visit my birth country Tanzania. Where can I start to tell you about my visit this summer? I guess I should start by first telling you how my heart is filled with admiration for Karibu Nyumbani ophans as well as its co-founders. Who I saw as good examples of God’s many miracles.  I do regret that my visit to them was brief. However, after spending time at the orphanage, it was obvious that I will be returning there. The orphanage first impression, has left a warm, tagging and lasting memories in me that I will forever be drawn back there to see and support them. The warm welcome that even Sarah, my 6 yrs old daughter felt from the children left her with lasting memories and lessons no mother or school could have ever enforced better! The orphanage made all of us feel so welcome and at home. The happiness and acceptance from the children left me feeling loved unconditionally. I keep praying for continuous revelation from God on what he wants me to do to support his wonderful work there. As the visit made it clear that without the support and generous contributions the project receives– whether through volunteer’s time, financial donations, fundraising or emotional support and prayers it won’t be possible to sustain it.

Since my return I have done nothing but think about my visit. I feel like a piece of me remained at the orphanage. After weeks of prayers and personal reflection, it’s clear that my task is to get my local community, friends, family and university to join forces with Karibu Nyumbani and make a huge difference in the lives of the children living there even if it’s just helping them spread the word of the work they do or the support they need.

It’s not a secret the orphanage has already given a small group of Tanzanian highly vulnerable children the chance to a bright new life. A life based on care and Gods love, healthy bodies, and minds crammed with knowledge and excitement. I truly do hope I can find purpose in my own life by helping children in desperate need for support. The co-founders- Fiona Hendy, Mama Easter and the other ladies working at the orphanage have given up their lives selflessly to help the children daily needs. However, they can’t do this job alone! They need volunteers to go there and help with the children, they also need financial donations and fundraising support to keep the project developing to help more children. It’s evident that work already done at Karibu Nyumbani is impressive! The fantastic facilities that the children sleep in, live, eat and play are clean and safe. The future need is now a decent school for them.

From the many generosities extended to them combined by hard work invested by Fiona and Ester -  A new plot has been purchased and they are looking for support building a small school for the children. the new school that will not only educate orphans but hopefully open its doors to children at the nearby village. I believe this is a fantastic vision. One that needs prayer support and fundraising. Please I urge you if you have never considered supporting a worthily cause. I urge you to consider Karibu Nyumbani orphans to be the benefactor of your kind charity….
